General students are sharply criticizing the statement issued by the Bangladesh Administrative Service Association, an organization of administration cadre officials which blamed city mayor Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah for the attack on the UNO residence in Barisal.

On Sunday (August 22), general students of different campuses in Dhaka staged a sit-in in front of the National Press Club demanding the withdrawal of a conspiracy case against party leaders and activists including the mayor of Barisal City Corporation, general secretary of Barisal Metropolitan Awami League Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah.

At the time, the students said that the attack on the UNO’s house was a “drama” and that the police and the administration were exaggerating the incident and had no confidence in the police administration’s investigation.

The students told the human chain, “We think the police have taken sides. The administration has also taken a stand against us. We think there should be an impartial investigation. That is why I want a judicial inquiry. “

Withdrawal of the case against Mayor Sadiq Abdullah and the judicial investigation of the incident and the Sadar Upazila Executive Officer. Municipal mayors and upazila council chairmen of Barisal division have demanded the removal of Munibur Rahman. They made the demand at a separate press conference at the Barisal Club auditorium on Saturday afternoon. Otherwise, during the month of mourning we would be forced to give a strict program at the end of August. However, it was informed at the press conference that he will inform about the program later.

Apart from this, the officials and employees of the city corporation, the cleaners and the teachers and students of Barisal University have organized human chains separately yesterday. Sadar Upazila Executive Officer. Awami League leaders and activists, including Chhatra League, have expressed their anger against Munibur Rahman.
The cleaners have threatened that if the case is not withdrawn, the city’s garbage will not be cleaned.

In this regard, Mayor Sadiq Abdullah said that he has demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident of the Upazila Parishad on Wednesday night. He claims, the whole incident is nothing but full of plot against him. The matter will be revealed if the full video of the CCTV camera at the time of the incident is released.

It may be mentioned that the BCL and local Awami League leaders clashed with the police over the removal of the banner at the Thana Council (Upazila Parishad) compound in Barisal Nagar.

The incident took place around 10:30 pm on Wednesday (August 18).
