Shafiq Ahmed Bhuiyan :
Bangladesh Chhatra League is the largest student organization in Asia. This organization has many achievements in the twists and turns of history. There is infinite sacrifice of the organization in the liberation war. About 17,000 BCL leaders and activists were martyred in the great war of liberation in 1971. And so that, this organization is of utmost care to the President of Bangladesh Awami League, Sheikh Hasina.
Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and Golam Rabbani were sacked from the top post of the BCL on the basis of various allegations. About three and a half months later, Al Nahyan Khan Joy and Lekhak Bhattacharjee were given full responsibility of the Central BCL.
When Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina put them in charge, the first task was to bring the organization into discipline and regularize the committees. Besides, the guardian of Chhatra League also instructed to work for the needs of the country according to the tradition of Chhatra League.
Many committees have been formed in the last two years. In 2021, a total of 13 new committees have been formed including 11 districts and 2 metropolises. New committees were formed in 8 government medical colleges. Besides, 3 district committees and one medical college (Mugda) committee were completed. It is also learned that the resumes of 3 districts (Lalmonirhat, Rajshahi and Natore) have been taken to give a new committee. The formation of new committees in Gazipur district and metropolis and Sylhet district and metropolis is also under discussion. Besides, CV has been taken for the new committee of Patuakhali district branch.
Led by Joy-Lekhak, the committee formed new committees in 5 districts in 2020. Besides, 6 district (2 university) committees were completed. After taking charge in 2019, the new committee of 1 district was formed and 2 district and 2 university committees were completed.
Apart from this, Chhatra League has been by the side of common people and ordinary students at ward, union, upazila, municipality and district level even during the global epidemic. During the last two years, the BCL had several initiatives including providing oxygen during the epidemic, bathing and burial of the dead due to Covid-19, medical aid and food aid. Not only that, during the lockdown, at the time of labor crisis, Chhatra League’s initiatives like cutting paddy, threshing and delivering it to farmers’ houses have been appreciated all over the country, Even from the top level of Awami League. The return of Chhatra League to humanitarian role was highly praised.
Several leaders of the central leadership of Chhatra League are demanding the arrangement of the conference on social media e.g. Facebook.
Saikat, vice-president of the central committee of Chhatra League, wrote that even after the age of the committee was around four years, the organizational responsibilities were not properly explained. No departmental and district based extended meetings are called and not more than 10/15 district conferences are held. How can we claim that the organizational activities of that committee are successful?
Another vice-president, Yaz al-Riyadh, wrote: “Our term was six months when Shovon and Rabbani were sacked from the leadership.” We were supposed to hold a conference within following six months. But today we have spent two years in the place of six months. We haven’t been able to organize a conference yet. Whoever gets the responsibility here should become the Lankan Ravan. But, organizing conferences at specific times is also a determinant of evaluating the success and unsuccess of a committee.
Who do we blame? We all know that land is fenced to protect the land from goats. Now, if that fence starts eating the land. then what else do we have to do ?
Awami League joint-general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, who is in charge of overseeing the organization said, “There was no other way but to form the committee in the press release. Their (current committee of Chhatra League) term is also at the last stage. We hope that the conference will be held in time, two years after it was relieved of its responsibilities and the situation is normal. “
Another leader said that the leader (Sheikh Hasina) is satisfied with the present committee of Chhatra League. They have done various humanitarian work amidst the pandemic. Regarding the press release committee, he said there was no alternative in such a situation.
A responsible leader of the central Awami League said that the leader(Sheikh Hasina) didn’t say anything about the BCL conference. However, many are thinking of a conference after the founding anniversary of Chhatra League.
According to a responsible and reliable source, the conference of the central committee of Chhatra League is likely to be held in June-July. Its policy decision may be taken after the founding anniversary of Chhatra League.
